1. Channel Islands National Park: Island Adventures Await

Just a short boat ride from Ventura, Channel Islands National Park is a hidden gem that’s perfect for families seeking an island adventure. Known as the "Galapagos of North America," the park consists of five rugged islands with diverse ecosystems and rich wildlife. Visitors can explore hiking trails, go kayaking, or even take a guided tour to learn about the unique history and natural beauty of the islands. If your family enjoys marine life, this is a great place to see seals, sea lions, dolphins, and even whales (during migration season). Don't forget to visit the pristine beaches for a picnic or just relax in the stunning surroundings.

Island Packers offers ferry transportation to five Channel Islands (Anacapa, Santa Cruz, Santa Rosa, San Miguel, and currently closed Santa Barbara) for day trips and camping. They also run seasonal whale and wildlife watching cruises, with gray whales in winter and blue/humpback whales in summer. Non-landing cruises are available for those wanting marine wildlife viewing without island hikes. Kayak tours at Santa Cruz Island are available for the most adventurous.
